Prior to accepting the role as lead pastor of Sydney Pentecostal Church in 2021, Harlyn and Helene Purdy served as a missionary with PAOC since 2010. Each having lost their spouses to cancer in 2008, the Lord brought Harlyn and Helene together. Married in 2010, they travelled to Malawi Africa where they served as Field Director, Lead Pastor of City Pentecostal Church (Blantyre, Malawi), and President of Pentecostal Bible and Leadership Institute. In these roles their ministry focused on training and equipping servant leaders for Kingdom activity in Malawi and the world.

Doctor Purdy transitioned from a career in business to full time ministry in 1978. He served as lead pastor for congregations in city and rural contexts until 2010. Currently Dr. Purdy is associate professor with Laval University, serves as adjunct faculty with IBQ, Montreal, adjunct faculty with All Nations Theological Seminary, Malawi, and President of Pentecostal Bible and Leadership Institute, Malawi, Africa. Helene serves as Administrator and Financial Director for the Malawi ministries and as a fully engaged assistant in the ministry at Sydney Pentecostal Church, Sydney, Nova Scotia.

Dr. Purdy is a published author, Camp Speaker and Bible Teacher, as well as a pastor. Harlyn and Helene’s ministry is focused on introducing people to the fullness of life that is found in relationship with Jesus Christ. Through building relationships and programs they endeavor to assist people in moving from a life of brokenness to one of wholeness and joy.
